Indian Railways will introduce a new Puri-Koraput Express train to improve rail connectivity within Odisha. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the inaugural service from Bhubaneswar railway station on July 6. The train will be operated and maintained by the East Coast Railway.

Puri-Koraput Express Train
On its inaugural run, the train will operate as Train No. 18407/18408. It will travel via Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh Road, Balangir, Titlagarh, Kesinga, Muniguda, Rayagada, Kakiriguma, and Damanjodi.
During regular operations, the train will stop at Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Naraj, Marthapur, Dhenkanal, Talcher Road, Angul, Boinda, Rairakhol, Sambalpur, Bargarh Road, Balangir, Titlagarh, Kesinga, Muniguda, Rayagada, Tikiri, Laxmipur Road, Kakiriguma and Damanjodi before reaching Koraput.
The Puri-Koraput Express will run three days a week. It will depart from Puri every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, while the return service from Koraput will operate on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.
As per the timetable, Train No. 18407 will leave Puri at 7:00 am and arrive in Koraput at 11:30 pm. On the return journey, Train No. 18408 will depart Koraput at 5:00 am and reach Puri at 10:20 pm.
How will this Train Benefit Passengers?
According to East Coast Railway, the new train will provide direct rail connectivity between the holy city of Puri and the tribal region of Koraput, fulfilling a long-pending demand of people. The service is expected to benefit pilgrims, tourists, students, patients, traders, and residents by improving access to religious places, educational institutions, hospitals, and business centres across the state.
The Railway Board approved the introduction of the Puri-Koraput-Puri Express (18407/18408) on May 13, 2026. With this new service, passengers travelling between coastal and southern Odisha are expected to enjoy better connectivity, improved travel convenience, and easier access to important destinations across the state.
