A fire at Chinchwad’s 220 kV substation triggered a citywide ripple on Sunday. The fault at 12:25 pm cut supply to Ganeshkhind, briefly halting Pune Metro. Eight trains were held at platforms; services resumed at 12:47 pm. Power outages hit about 3.1 lakh consumers across Pimpri-Chinchwad and parts of Pune. Today, Sep 7, services run with enhanced monitoring, officials said.
The explosion involved a 22 kV current transformer, and the fire was contained. MahaMetro quickly rerouted traction power via the Vanaz feed to stabilise overhead lines. “One of four major transformers has a technical problem,” said MSETCL’s Vitthal Bhujbal. Restoration in most city pockets progressed by afternoon, with wider supply balancing by evening.

Pune Metro route-wise status and ETAs
| Route | Current status (Sep 7) | Advisory |
|---|---|---|
| Purple Line (PCMC–Swargate) | Operational | Allow 10–15 minutes extra near PCMC and Phugewadi during morning peaks. |
| Aqua Line (Vanaz–Ramwadi) | Operational | Interchange crowds possible at Civil Court; plan a two-train margin. |
Both corridors are scheduled to run normally today, with staff monitoring feeder loads. If travelling from PCMC or Phugewadi, reach earlier and expect heavier queues at security. Platform indicators and in-train announcements will flag any bunching. Officials restored supply in affected areas between 6 pm and 7 pm Sunday, which eased traction volatility.
