Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, along with officials from Maha Metro and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has finalised plans to build a new Metro line connecting Kalyaninagar Metro station to Lohegaon Airport, aiming for a direct Metro connection to the airport, making travel easier for passengers.

How will the New Pune Metro Line benefit residents?
Officials studied several possible routes before selecting the Kalyaninagar-Lohegaon corridor as the best option during a joint meeting held on Tuesday. They said the new Metro line would solve the long-standing problem of the airport not having direct Metro access. The lack of a Metro connection had been widely criticised, especially after the airport was left out of the Phase II Metro expansion.
Mohol said the new line would offer smooth and convenient travel not only for people living in Pune but also for commuters from Pimpri Chinchwad, allowing them to reach the airport without depending on road transport.
Preparation for a Double-Decker Flyover
During the meeting, Mohol also asked Maha Metro to prepare a plan for a double-decker flyover along Karve Road. The proposed flyover will begin at Paud Phata and continue up to Vandevi Temple, near Dahanukar Colony. It will be integrated with the planned Metro corridor between Paud Phata (SNDT) and Warje. Earlier, the flyover was planned only up to Karve Putala Chowk, but the proposal has now been extended.
Another decision taken at the meeting was to extend a planned flyover on Paud Road from the Kothrud garbage depot junction to Chandni Chowk. This project is linked to the Vanaz-Chandni Chowk Metro extension, for which initial work has already begun.
Residents' Concerns
Some residents near the Kothrud depot have raised concerns about the current flyover design, saying it may not effectively benefit Metro users and commuters. Mohol instructed officials to review and improve the design after considering public feedback.
The meeting also focused on improving last-mile connectivity to Metro stations and ensuring enough funds for ongoing and future Metro projects. Mohol assured that financial support and necessary approvals would be provided while asking Maha Metro, PMPML, and PMC to work together to improve transport services for commuters.
