Kaziranga National Park Visit
The Prime Minister is expected to arrive at Kaziranga on the evening of March 8 and will embark on a safari the following morning. The park, renowned for its conservation efforts and as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is celebrating 50 years since it was declared a national park in February 1974. Assam's Forest and Environment Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary, recently reviewed the preparations for Modi's visit, ensuring that arrangements for both jeep and elephant safaris are in place to provide a comprehensive experience of the park's diverse wildlife and habitats.
Unveiling and Foundation Laying Ceremonies
On March 9, the Prime Minister's schedule includes unveiling a monumental over 125-ft-high bronze statue of the legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan at Jorhat. This statue commemorates Barphukan's significant contribution to Assam's history, particularly his role in the 1671 naval 'Battle of Saraighat', where he led the Ahom forces to victory against the Mughal army.
Additionally, Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the Sivasagar Medical College and partake in the 'Griha Pravesh' ceremony for homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), benefiting approximately 5.5 lakh families. His visit will conclude with a public address at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat.
Cultural and Historical Emphasis
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's recent visit to the site of the Lachit Barphukan statue underscores the state government's commitment to fostering cultural heritage. The area surrounding the statue, located at Lahdoigarh in the Hollongapar area, is set to be developed into a Lachit Barphukan Cultural Centre. Plans include the establishment of two museums dedicated to the Ahom era and a war museum featuring artefacts from the period, enriching the cultural fabric of the region.
