Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has finished the tender process for building a new metro depot in Sector 33. This depot project, costing more than ₹400 crore, has now been sent to higher officials in Chandigarh for final approval before construction starts.

Recent Review Meeting
Officials at a recent review meeting stated work is already underway on some parts of the metro project. For example, piles are being built, and by May this year, they plan to begin laying the concrete spans on elevated pillars between Sector 44 and Subash Chowk. The second phase of the metro project is also being planned.
Old Gurugram Connection
GMRL officials explained that the existing metro line in Old Gurugram will be connected to the new Gurugram Metro through a 2-kilometre track from Sector 5 to Gurugram Railway Station. At Sector 5, an interchange station will be built so passengers can switch between the Old Gurugram metro, the new metro, and a future Bhondsi metro line.
How Will it Benefit Commuters?
During the meeting, GMRL also suggested a plan to improve traffic near the Gurugram Railway Station. They proposed building a road tunnel that would link Old Railway Road with the Dwarka Expressway. This would help reduce traffic congestion around the busy station area.
The Haryana government's adviser, D.S. Dhesi, asked for a detailed project report (DPR) from a consultant to study how to improve access to the station and upgrade pedestrian routes. Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) officials said the railway station is being upgraded and that better road and walking access will help manage future passenger traffic smoothly.
