People in Patna who have long faced daily traffic jams on Ashok Rajpath are finally getting some relief. A brand-new double-decker flyover, set to open on June 11, is expected to greatly improve traffic flow. This modern structure, stretching 2.2 kilometres and built at a cost of Rs 422 crore, will be Bihar's second double-decker flyover after Chhapra.

Improved Travel for Key Areas
The flyover connects Kargil Chowk to Science College, helping ease congestion in busy places like PMCH, Patna University, and surrounding localities. Students, hospital visitors, and local residents are expected to benefit the most as it reduces long-standing traffic issues.
Two-Level Design
The flyover features two decks. The lower deck is 1.5 km long, running from Patna College to BN College. The upper deck is 2.2 km and allows vehicles to travel from Gandhi Maidan to Science College. The lower deck will support traffic moving in the opposite direction-from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan. Each deck is 8.5 metres wide, with several ramps for easy access: two on the lower and three on the upper deck.
Better Connectivity with Other Projects
This flyover is well integrated with other infrastructure in the city. A lift pit for the upcoming University metro station is under construction nearby. The flyover also connects with the Patna Metro, Bakarganj Nala road overpass, and the future PMCH multi-level parking facility.
Noise Reduction and Smooth Flow
To protect nearby schools, hospitals, and homes from traffic noise, noise barriers have been installed on both decks. These can reduce sound levels by up to 70%.
A New Era for Patna's Roads
With vehicles moving across three levels-ground, first, and second floors-Patna's traffic flow is expected to improve. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will officially inaugurate the flyover on June 11. For residents and daily commuters, this marks a big step forward in making the city more travel-friendly.
