Any plans for your 2024 summer? I know it's early but the news I have to share has also come early so that you can grab the opportunity because it's about the city of Love, Paris. Read on to know the eligibility, volunteer's work and other details.
The Olympic Games in Paris, France requires 45,000 foreign volunteers who are willing to work unpaid at the biggest sporting event on the globe. However, it was highlighted that if chosen, individuals from nations outside of the Schengen region of the European Union would need to submit additional documentation.
In order to enter the Schengen Zone to attend a sporting or cultural event, citizens of third countries must first apply for a short-stay Visa application. While applying for a tourist Schengen visa, applicants must provide important documents like:
- Accommodations details,
- Travel health insurance,
- Financial means,
- Roundtrip reservation, etc.
On the day they intend to leave the Schengen Area, applicants must make sure their passports are still valid for another three months. It should be made clear that passports that are more than ten years old will not be accepted.
In an event that is open to everyone, they also want the group of assistants to also include at least 3,000 volunteers with disabilities. In this regard, Geneviève Darrieussecq, the French government's Minister for People with Disabilities, saw the occasion as a fantastic opportunity to broaden France's inclusivity.

She also encouraged individuals with impairments to apply as volunteer candidates, emphasizing that everyone is welcome. In addition, despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine, French officials declared that applicants from all countries, including Belarus and Russia, are welcomed.
To be chosen to assist in this situation, they must fulfill certain criteria. For the Olympics or Paralympics, they must be at least 18 years old, speak English or French language, and also be available for at least ten days.
It has been made clear that volunteers may submit applications for positions beginning on March 22, 2023, and continuing until May 3, 2023, on the Paris 2024 website.
As the volunteer portal will open in March 2023, and anyone who is interested can sign up to help with these events through the online platform. Paris will get in touch with applicants at the same time for the period of September to December 2023. So, if you apply and you get selected, congratulations my friend for choosing this unique experience!
Is it really all free?
Yes! The experience of being at the world's biggest sports event is free. Though you have to look for your travel and accommodation on your own. Also, non-EU citizens must have valid and appropriate visas to stay in France. Do check the rules and regulations officially on your own.
Please note, even though you'll get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Games, no complimentary tickets to any athletic events are promised.

Still Interested? Know what volunteers at the Olympics do?
When athletes and fans arrive at the Games, volunteers are among the first people they encounter. As a result, you will represent France's hospitality and core values. The volunteer program offers a variety of "missions," such as greeting guests at airports and train stations, giving out information at events, and even gathering tennis balls.
Timetables, interpersonal skills, and a love of sports can all be valuable in different ways. The organizers emphasize that, in addition to the excitement of volunteering, it provides excellent education and work experience for the future of your professional life.
