Orange And Red Alerts Issued For Mumbai, Gujarat Amid Heavy Rains

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red alerts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Gujarat, and other regions due to an active monsoon system.

Heavy rainfall is expected across many states today due to an active monsoon system over the Indian subcontinent. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday, August 24. Gujarat is under a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall today.

IMD Weather Update

The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places across Gujarat, Vidarbha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. "Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls (> 20 cm) very likely at isolated places over Gujarat Region; Heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥ 12 cm) at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch; Heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Marathwada, Kerala & Mahe, Telangana, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka," IMD stated in its latest weather bulletin.

Several coastal regions of the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea will experience squally weather today. Wind speeds are expected to reach 35 kmph to 45 kmph with gusts up to 55 kmph along and off Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and north Andhra Pradesh.

Orange Alert in Mumbai

Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra such as Raigad and Ratnagiri districts are likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall today. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts starting from August 24. PTI reported that Pune and Satara districts in western Maharashtra and Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gondia districts in Vidarbha are also under orange alert for Saturday.

An orange alert indicates potential disruption due to heavy to very heavy rainfall exceeding 64.5 mm in 24 hours. This can lead to flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt normal life.

Delhi Weather Today

The Meteorological Department predicts pleasant weather for Delhi today with a generally cloudy sky accompanied by light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms. A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi on Saturday to warn residents of possible disruptions due to light to moderate rain across the city.

The minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to be around 26 degrees Celsius while the maximum could reach up to 34 degrees Celsius.
