Opportunities For Indian Nationals With Multi-Year Schengen Visa; Know What It Means

The Schengen visa is a travel document that allows holders to visit multiple European countries within the Schengen Area for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Recently, the European Union (EU) introduced a new visa regime aimed at simplifying travel to Europe for Indian nationals, signaling a strengthening of ties between India and the EU.

Ambassador Herve Delphin, the EU envoy to India, announced the initiative on April 22, emphasizing the EU's commitment to fostering people-to-people contact and enhancing international alliances. Under this new regime, Indian frequent travellers now have the opportunity to obtain a multi-year Schengen visa for up to five years, marking a significant milestone in facilitating travel between India and Europe.

The EU's decision underscores its dedication to promoting closer ties between the two regions and enhancing ease of travel for Indian nationals. The announcement was made via a post on X, where Ambassador Delphin highlighted the importance of the new Schengen visa regime in making travel to Europe more accessible and convenient for Indian travellers.

According to a statement issued by the EU mission in New Delhi, the European Commission adopted specific rules on April 18 regarding the issuing of multiple-entry visas to Indian nationals. These rules, which are more favorable than the standard rules of the Visa Code, provide easier access to visas with multi-year validity for Indian travellers with an established travel history.

By providing easier access to multi-year visas, the EU aims to facilitate smoother and more convenient travel experiences for Indian travellers visiting Europe.
