Onam Special Trains to be Introduced in Major Cities

Speaking in Delhi on Monday, the minister said that additional trains are likely to be introduced from major cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, which have a large number of Malayalis working and studying there. He added that the complete details, including the train schedules, routes, stoppages, and dates of operation, will be announced soon by Indian Railways.

How will these Special Trains Benefit Passengers?

Every year, passenger demand for trains to Kerala increases significantly during the Onam season as thousands of people return to their hometowns. The introduction of 100 special trains is expected to reduce overcrowding, improve ticket availability, and make travel more convenient for passengers.

Highest Officials to Welcome the Move

Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar appreciated the decision, which would provide major relief to thousands of Malayalis living across India. He said many people leave Kerala for work, education, and other opportunities, and they eagerly wait to return home during Onam to spend time with their families.

He added that coming back to Kerala to celebrate Onam with loved ones is a cherished tradition for every Malayali. According to him, the additional special train services will help reduce travel difficulties and make the journey smoother during the festive season.

Chandrasekhar also praised the Centre's decision, saying it reflects a people-focused approach to governance. He said the government has understood the emotions and needs of citizens by introducing more trains during one of Kerala's biggest festivals. The special train services are expected to benefit thousands of passengers and ensure a more comfortable travel experience during the Onam holiday rush.
