Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar has announced that 58 special KSRTC bus services will be available for the Onam season. These buses will run between Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Chennai, from September 9 to 23. If bookings increase on any route, more buses will be added to meet the demand.

Extra Buses for Onam
The decision to add more buses comes after noticing that private bus operators have raised their fares during the Onam period. "Unlike private bus operators, KSRTC will not increase ticket prices during the Onam season. Bus services will be available from all major depots," said Ganesh Kumar.
KSRTC already operates over 90 regular inter-state buses daily. In addition to these, Karnataka RTC plans to run 21 extra buses during the Onam period. Last year, KSRTC earned nearly Rs 71 crore during the Onam season, with the highest single-day earnings reaching Rs 8.48 crore.
Response from Private Bus Operators
Some private bus operators have responded by saying that only a few have increased fares. "A small number of operators get permits during the Onam season to take advantage of the high demand. It's common for prices to go up slightly when demand is high," said a bus operator.
The government's initiative is aimed at providing affordable travel options for passengers during Onam. This move is expected to make it easier for people to travel home for the celebrations.
With both KSRTC and Karnataka RTC increasing their services, passengers can expect more choices and a smoother travel experience. The extra buses are anticipated to meet the high demand and ensure that everyone can travel comfortably.
This step by KSRTC shows its commitment to serving passengers without increasing costs during busy seasons. The introduction of these additional buses is a significant effort to ensure that everyone can enjoy Onam without worrying about travel expenses or finding available seats.
