The Electricity Board has announced a planned power cut in some parts of Coimbatore on December 31. The electricity supply will be stopped for nearly seven hours, starting from 9:00 am and continuing until 4:00 pm. This shutdown is scheduled in advance so that people are aware and can prepare accordingly.
Why is the Power Cut Carried Out?
Officials said that the power interruption is part of the board's regular monthly maintenance programme. This maintenance work is carried out every month in different areas on a rotational basis. The main purpose of this work is to repair damaged equipment, replace old power lines, and improve the overall performance of the electricity system. These steps help reduce sudden power failures and ensure a steady and reliable power supply in the future.
List of Affected Areas in Coimbatore
During maintenance hours, electricity will be unavailable in areas connected to the affected feeders. In Coimbatore, the power cut will mainly affect the Ukkadam region. Areas likely to face the outage include Variety Hall Road, Town Hall, Oppanakara Street, T.K. Market, Selvapuram, Kempatti Colony, Karumbukkadai, Aathupalayam, Ukkadam, Sungam, the Collectorate area, Government Hospital surroundings, Railway Station, and nearby localities.
Precautionary Measures
The Electricity Board has requested residents and businesses in these areas to take necessary precautions, such as charging electronic devices in advance, planning daily activities early, and making alternative arrangements if needed.
Power Cut in Chennai Today
Moreover, a scheduled power cut has also been announced in Chennai on December 30. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Generating and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) stated that electricity will be suspended from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm due to maintenance work. Power supply may resume earlier if the work is completed on time.
Areas to be Affected in Chennai
In Chennai, the Kovoor area will be mainly affected. Localities such as Mookambika Nagar, Sivasakthi Nagar, Thangam Avenue, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, and Srinivasa Nagar will face the interruption. Residents in these areas are advised to plan to avoid inconvenience during the outage period.
