Chennai Metro Rail passengers can now enjoy a 50% discount on tickets purchased via the Uber app for one month.

In addition, commuters using Uber Auto or Uber Moto for travel to or from Metro stations will receive an extra 50% fare discount (up to ₹20). The initiative aims to boost commuter convenience by offering multiple ticket-purchasing options.
M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, stating, "This provides passengers with yet another option to buy tickets. Our focus is on making tickets available across various platforms to ensure maximum convenience. With our rapid expansion, we aim to redefine commuting in Chennai."
Effortless Multimodal Integration
Manikandan Thangarathnam, Senior Director at Uber, stressed the importance of linking different modes of transport. "For passengers, the metro is just one part of their journey - they might walk or take an auto to reach the station. Now, with a single click and payment, we can seamlessly manage both the first and last legs of the trip. This initiative sets the stage for travellers to plan their journeys with ease, and that's the experience we aim to deliver," he explained.
The initiative forms part of a broader vision to enhance the commuter experience by simplifying travel planning and payment. Through this integration, passengers can manage their entire trip via one platform, making their travel more convenient and streamlined.
However, Thangarathnam acknowledged that achieving flawless integration remains a challenge, as real-time factors like traffic conditions and vehicle availability affect both travel time and cost. Addressing these complexities requires advanced machine learning and AI-driven solutions.
The collaboration between Chennai Metro Rail and Uber represents a major step forward in improving Chennai's urban mobility. By offering discounts and integrating services, the partnership aims to make public transportation more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly for daily commuters.
