To improve traffic flow and reduce accidents, the Noida Traffic Police are introducing strict lane driving rules on three key roads. This initiative is designed to manage heavy traffic, especially during peak hours, and address safety issues caused by sudden lane changes. Violators will face a fine of ₹1,500, highlighting the authorities' commitment to disciplined driving.

Key Areas for Lane Discipline
The new rules will apply to the following high-traffic areas:
1. Charkha Roundabout near Amity University: A critical junction where traffic from Sectors 125, 126, and 128 merges with vehicles heading towards Kalindi Kunj, Sarita Vihar, and Jamia Nagar. This spot frequently experiences congestion due to heavy vehicle movement.
2. Gardens Galleria Mall to Film City Road: A busy route connecting commuters from areas like Botanical Garden, GIP Mall, and Sector 18 to the Noida Expressway, Greater Noida, Chilla Border, and DND Flyway. The traffic here is worsened by frequent, abrupt lane changes.
3. Bird Feeding Area near Dalit Prerna Sthal: Known for high vehicle density, this area also faces regular traffic jams due to sudden lane shifts.
Designated Lane-Changing Zones
To manage these congestion points, lane-changing zones will be set up approximately 500 meters before the key areas. These zones will allow drivers to transition between lanes safely and reduce abrupt shifts that cause jams and accidents.
Cameras will monitor compliance with the new rules, and violators will be fined ₹1,500. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav stated that these measures are expected to improve traffic flow and safety in Noida.
Plans for Expansion
If the initiative proves successful, the Noida Traffic Police may extend lane driving rules to other roads. This potential expansion reflects a long-term strategy to enhance road safety across the city.
S Velmurugan, chief scientist at the Central Road Research Institute, emphasized the importance of lane discipline, stating that expressways have designated lanes: the right for overtaking, the middle for cars, and the left for heavy vehicles.
Monitoring System Upgrades
The implementation of this initiative requires an upgrade to the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). While ITMS cameras are operational on the expressway, they currently cannot detect lane-changing violations. Plans are underway to enhance their capabilities for better enforcement.
By introducing lane discipline, setting up designated zones, and imposing fines on violators, the Noida Traffic Police aim to reduce traffic congestion and accidents. These efforts, coupled with improved monitoring systems, signal a significant step towards ensuring safer and smoother commutes for Noida's residents.
