In the busy city of Pimple Nilakh, a major project is underway to improve daily travel. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is building a subway at Rakshak Chowk on the Sangvi-Kiwale Road. This new development is expected to reduce traffic congestion and make commuting smoother for thousands of people.

With work progressing quickly, the subway is near completion. The RCC box foundation is almost done, and ramps on both sides are being constructed. Once finished, the subway will help reduce long wait times at traffic signals and make travel faster for vehicles heading to Pune, Aundh, Ravet, and Mumbai.
Key Features of the Subway
The Rakshak Chowk subway has been planned with a strong focus on efficiency and safety. Some important details of the project are:
- Total length: 363 meters
- Ramp length (Aundh side): 125 meters
- Subway length: 18 meters
- Ramp length (Jagtap Dairy side): 220 meters
- Subway width: 26.4 meters
- Subway height: 5.5 meters
- Project cost: Rs 18.65 crore
According to Shekhar Singh, Commissioner of PCMC, this project is a big step in improving the city's traffic system. He mentioned that the subway will not only reduce congestion but also help save fuel and support environmental sustainability.
Importance of the Project
The Sangvi-Kiwale Road is one of the most important roads in the area, connecting Pimpri Chinchwad with Pune and Mumbai. Due to rapid urbanization and industrial growth, the road sees heavy traffic every day. BRT buses, school vehicles, and office commuters all depend on this route, making it necessary to improve infrastructure.
PCMC started this subway project to ensure smoother traffic movement. The subway will reduce congestion on smaller roads in Pimple Nilakh, especially in the gaothan area, and make commuting safer.
Progress and Measures Taken
Currently, 80% of the casting for the RE panels has been completed. Along with the main construction, additional work like setting up drainage systems and traffic signs is also being carried out. To reduce inconvenience to travelers, alternate traffic routes have been arranged, allowing vehicles to move freely even during construction.
Pramod Ombase, Chief Engineer of PCMC's Civil Projects Department, highlighted the importance of this subway. He stated that it would solve the long-standing traffic issues at Rakshak Chowk and reduce travel time for vehicles heading to Pune, Aundh, Ravet, and Mumbai. It will also provide safer turning options for people traveling towards Pimple Nilakh gaothan.
The Rakshak Chowk subway is an important project that will bring major benefits to residents and commuters. By reducing traffic congestion and improving travel times, this infrastructure project is set to make life easier for thousands. PCMC remains committed to completing it on time, ensuring a more connected and efficient urban future for Pimple Nilakh.
