The Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway will introduce 14 new suburban train services from July 6, 2026, to reduce overcrowding and improve connectivity for daily commuters in and around Kolkata. The new services include 11 EMU trains and 3 MEMU trains. Railway officials said the additional trains are being introduced in response to the growing number of passengers using suburban rail services every day.

New Suburban Trains from July 6
Out of the 14 new services, 11 will operate on the Sealdah South section. These include new local trains on important suburban routes such as Sealdah-Namkhana, Sealdah-Canning, Sealdah-Lakshmikantapur, Sealdah-Diamond Harbour, and Sonarpur. The extra services are expected to reduce crowding during morning and evening peak hours and provide more convenient travel options for office-goers, students, and other daily passengers.
The remaining three MEMU services will run on the Sealdah Main section. These trains will connect Kolkata, Lalgola and Berhampore Court, replacing some conventional passenger trains with faster and more comfortable MEMU services. The upgraded trains will offer improved acceleration, shorter travel times, and better passenger comfort while maintaining the existing connectivity on these routes.
How will these Services Strengthen Kolkata's Railway Network?
Eastern Railway officials said the new services are part of continuous efforts to strengthen Kolkata's suburban railway network. Sealdah Division is one of the busiest suburban railway divisions in India, carrying millions of passengers every month. The introduction of additional trains is expected to improve punctuality, reduce waiting time, and distribute passenger traffic more evenly across different services.
The new timetable will come into effect from July 6, and passengers have been advised to check the revised schedules before travelling. Railway authorities believe the additional train services will significantly improve the daily commuting experience by offering more travel options, reducing overcrowding and ensuring smoother operations across both the Sealdah South and Main sections.
