The Railway Board has approved a bi-weekly train service connecting Bandra Terminus in Mumbai to Goa and's Konkan region, officials announced on Tuesday. The inaugural journey is scheduled for August 29, departing from Borivali station instead of Bandra Terminus.

Currently, all trains heading to Konkan and Goa from Mumbai depart from Central Railway stations. Introducing a train from Bandra Terminus will benefit tourists from Mumbai's Western suburbs who frequently visit the coastal state.
New Train Schedule and Stops
The new service will run between Bandra Terminus and Madgaon in Goa. According to the notification, the train will leave Madgaon every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:40 am, arriving at Bandra Terminus by 11:40 pm. It will depart from Bandra Terminus every Wednesday and Friday at 6:50 am, reaching Madgaon by 10 pm.
The train will stop at 13 stations along its route: Borivali, Vasai Road, Bhiwandi Road, Panvel, Roha, Veer, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Sawantwadi, Thivim, and Karmali.
Operational Challenges
A Western Railway official mentioned that due to the absence of a cord line, they would need to change the train's direction from north to south at Vasai Road. This process could be time-consuming and might affect the punctuality of other trains.
The new service will use 20 LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches. These coaches are known for providing enhanced safety, comfort, and efficiency for passengers.
This initiative aims to make travel more convenient for those residing in Mumbai's Western suburbs who wish to visit Goa. The new route offers an alternative departure point compared to the existing Central Railway stations.
By offering this new service from Bandra Terminus, Western Railway hopes to attract more tourists heading towards Goa and Konkan. This move is expected to ease congestion at Central Railway stations while providing a direct link for residents of Mumbai's Western suburbs.
The introduction of this bi-weekly train marks a significant step in improving connectivity between Mumbai and popular tourist destinations in Goa and Konkan. Passengers can now enjoy a more streamlined travel experience with enhanced facilities on board.
