Mumbai recently opened the Toll-Free Mumbai Coastal Road, a transformative project to enhance connectivity and ease the city's notorious traffic congestion. The Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), officially christened the Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, has been under construction since 2018. The inaugural phase, spanning approximately 9.5 kilometers from Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL), lays the foundation for a transformative urban landscape.

- Generous Carriageway Width: With a width of 17 meters (including 9.6 meters within the tunnels), the vehicular passages cater to the needs of a bustling metropolis.

The Mumbai Coastal Road proudly showcases undersea tunnels, a pioneering achievement for India's infrastructure landscape. These tunnels, created using India's largest Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named Mavala, promise to redefine transportation norms. April 2013 witnessed the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority's (MCZMA) request for an amendment to the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), a crucial step for the Coastal Road project.
