Mumbai is expected to receive another spell of heavy rain starting Thursday, July 30, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a further increase in rainfall activity across the city and nearby districts. The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places, along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds reaching 40-50 kmph in parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Mumbai Rain Alert; IMD Issued Yellow Alert
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Palghar, warning residents about the possibility of very heavy rainfall during the day. Meanwhile, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad are under a yellow alert, indicating that heavy rain is likely at a few places. Weather officials have advised people to remain cautious, especially those living in low-lying areas that are prone to waterlogging.
After a brief reduction in rainfall over the past few days, weather experts said monsoon conditions are becoming active once again due to favourable atmospheric systems. As a result, rainfall is expected to intensify over the Konkan region, including Mumbai. The city may witness cloudy skies throughout the day with intermittent heavy showers.
Advisory for Passengers
Civic authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation and have asked disaster management teams to remain prepared. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, as waterlogging and traffic congestion may affect several roads. Commuters using local trains and buses are also advised to check service updates before leaving home.
The IMD has also warned fishermen not to venture into the sea due to rough weather conditions along the Maharashtra coast. People are advised to follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions while travelling. With heavy rainfall expected to continue through the day, citizens should stay alert and plan their journeys carefully to avoid inconvenience.
