Mumbai Metro Line-3 inauguration, route and connectivity
The final segment of Mumbai Metro Line-3, stretching from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, was opened on October 8, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the section at a ceremony held near the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The event marked the completion of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor for public use. Among those attending the Line-3 inauguration were Japan's Ambassador to India, ONO Keiichi, Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Also present were Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with other officials. In his address, PM Modi termed the underground network a "living emblem of a developing Bharat" and lauded the efforts behind it. He commended the engineers and workers for delivering the project within Mumbai's crowded urban setting while safeguarding heritage structures during construction. Mumbai Metro Line-3 connects key economic and travel hubs such as Bandra-Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Mumbai International Airport, and MIDC. Its entirely subterranean design aims to reduce surface traffic and shorten cross-city commutes. With New Year overnight services, authorities seek to extend this convenience to late-night festive travel.
