Mumbai has taken a big step forward in improving public transport. On May 10, 2025, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially opened Phase 2A of Mumbai Metro Line-3, also called the Aqua Line. This new section connects Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Worli through a 9.77-kilometer-long underground route, cutting travel time to just 15 minutes.

Better Connectivity Across Mumbai
This new route connects some of Mumbai's important places such as Dharavi, Shitaladevi Temple, Dadar, Siddhivinayak Temple, and Worli. The train service runs every 6 minutes and 20 seconds, and a full journey takes about 15 minutes and 20 seconds. Ticket prices are kept low, between Rs 10 and Rs 40, making it an affordable option for daily travel.
Phase 2A Aims to Solve Past Issues
Earlier, the first phase of Metro Line-3 did not get many passengers because of poor last-mile connectivity and fewer links to important business areas. But the launch of the BKC-Worli section is expected to bring more passengers as it connects to major office zones and helps people travel faster and easier.
Big Impact on Mumbai's Transport Future
When the full Metro Line-3 is ready, expected by July 2025, people will be able to travel from Cuffe Parade to Aarey in less than an hour. The line will connect major work centers such as Nariman Point, Fort, SEEPZ, and Lower Parel. It is expected to carry 1.3 million people every day, reducing car use, fuel needs, traffic jams, and even pollution levels in Mumbai.
Progress and Future Plans
As of April 30, 2025, the Metro Line-3 project is 94.85% complete. Civil work, tunneling, and track laying are done, and station construction is 99.42% complete. Work on electrical and signaling systems is also nearly finished at 90.1%.
BKC to Become a Major Transit Hub
The BKC station will become a key transit point, with future connections to Metro Line-2B and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. This will help more people switch between different types of transport quickly and smoothly.
The opening of Phase 2A of the Mumbai Metro Line-3 is a big achievement. It brings Mumbai closer to a faster, cleaner, and better-connected transport system. This project is expected to improve the lives of thousands of people and support the city's goal of sustainable urban development.
