The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is preparing to open the first phase of Metro Line 2B between Mandale and Chembur in the second week of October. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is expected to finish his inspection soon. However, it is unclear if this section will

open at the same time as Metro Line 3's Acharya Atre Chowk-Cuffe Parade corridor, which is also near completion.
Mumbai Metro Line 2B Connection
The Mandale-Chembur stretch will be the first operational part of the 23.6 km Metro Line 2B, which will eventually connect D N Nagar to Mandale through Bandra, Kurla, and Chembur. Trial runs on this section began on April 16, soon after electrification was completed, and daily trials have been conducted to check train systems and safety since then. Stations on this first section will include Mandale, Mankhurd, BSNL, Shivaji Chowk, and Diamond Garden. According to MMRDA officials, 98% of the civil work is complete, along with the 31-acre Mandale carshed, which will be the main depot for the corridor.
Benefits of Mumbai Metro Line 2B
This phase will bring the first Metro service to residents of Chembur and nearby eastern suburbs, who so far have only had the Monorail as a rapid transit option to the island city. The line is expected to cut travel time along V N Purav Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway by about 15-20 minutes. It will also connect with the Harbour Line at Mankhurd railway station, improving multimodal travel.
When the entire Metro 2 line is ready, it is expected to handle more than 10 lakh passengers daily, offering Mumbai a major east-west transit link and easing pressure on roads and suburban trains.
