Authority (MMRDA) has proposed that Metro-12A will run from Manpada in Kalyan to Khutari village in Taloja. The 18.4-km corridor will be elevated and is expected to improve travel between Kalyan-Dombivli and the trans-harbour areas of Navi Mumbai.

Proposed Mumbai Metro Line 14

Officials said the corridor may pass through Kalyan-Shilphata Road and National Highway 48 before joining Metro Line 12 near Taloja. It could also share some tracks and stations with the proposed Metro Line 14, which is planned between Katai Naka and Kalyan Phata. An MMRDA official said that a spur line may also be built to connect Metro-12A to the Thane Bullet Train station.

New Corridor to Boost Travel

The new corridor is expected to have around 10 to 12 elevated stations. According to officials, this project will strengthen metro services in the busy eastern part of the MMR, where many commuters depend heavily on suburban local trains. Experts believe the extension will provide passengers with alternative travel options, especially if it connects to Metro Line 14 and Metro Line 5.

Budget for the Project

The estimated project cost will cover civil work, electrical systems, signaling, telecommunication, and trains. As the line will be elevated, land acquisition and rehabilitation issues are expected to be limited. Recently, MMRDA presented a ₹48,000 crore budget for 2026-27, with about 75% set aside for metro and infrastructure projects. Funds have been allocated for both Metro Line 12 and Metro Line. Work on Line 12 is at an advanced stage, while construction on Line 14 has recently begun. At 45 km, Line 14 is expected to be the longest metro corridor in the region.
