Indian Railways has made the 20-coach Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express permanent from April 28, 2026, to help more passengers easily book seats on one of the busiest routes in the country and improve their travel experience.

Four Extra Train Coaches
Earlier, the train had fewer coaches, but now four extra coaches have been added, including three AC Chair Cars and one Executive Class coach. This change was first introduced temporarily during busy travel seasons, but it has become permanent now. As a result, passengers will face fewer waiting times and will find it easier to book confirmed seats.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Route
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad route is very important as it connects two major cities. Covering about 491 km in just 5 hours and 30 minutes, the train stops at key stations like Borivali, Vapi, Surat, and Vadodara. It is widely used by business travellers, students, tourists, and daily commuters. The permanent increase in coaches shows that demand on this route is high throughout the year and not just during holidays.
Why are Vande Bharat Trains Gaining Popularity?
The popularity of Vande Bharat Express has grown rapidly. In the financial year 2025-26, about 4 crore passengers travelled on these trains, which is a 34% increase compared to the previous year. Since starting in 2019, over 9.1 crore passengers have used the service. These trains are preferred because they are fast, clean, comfortable, and punctual. Features like modern seating, mobile charging points, better safety systems, and onboard meals make travel more convenient.
