After the launch of metro services in cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Noida, and Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh is now set to welcome the Meerut Metro. On February 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the project. On the same day, he will also flag off the Rapid Rail Namo Bharat train from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Meerut South.

First Phase of Meerut Metro
The first phase of the Meerut Metro covers a 23-kilometre stretch with 13 stations, running between Modipuram and Meerut South. The project began in 2019 and was completed in about seven years. Trains on this route will run at a maximum speed of 120 kmph, making travel fast and comfortable. Once operational, the journey from Delhi to Meerut will take just 55 minutes.
Major Metro Train Stoppages
Each metro train can carry around 700 passengers at a time. Trains will stop at all 13 stations, with an average travel time of about 7 minutes between stations. The stations on this route are Modipuram, Modipuram Depot, Meerut North, Daurli, MES Colony, Begum Pul, Bhaisali, Meerut Central, Brahmapuri, Shatabdinagar, Rithani, Partapur, and Meerut South. From Meerut South, passengers can easily travel to Delhi or Ghaziabad using the Rapid Rail service.
Flagging off the First Metro Train
The Prime Minister will flag off the first metro train from Meerut South station. All stations are equipped with basic facilities such as drinking water, washrooms, and special arrangements for passengers with disabilities. The stations are a mix of elevated, underground, and ground-level structures.
Metro Timings
The metro will operate from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on Sundays. During peak hours, trains will arrive every 5 to 10 minutes. A single ticket can be used for both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro services. Fare details will be announced soon.
