During the celebration of World Tourism Day 2024, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, announced the winners of the Best Tourism Villages Competition 2024. This competition is a unique initiative aimed at promoting tourism in India's rural areas, highlighting villages that preserve and promote their cultural and natural heritage. It focuses on villages that showcase community-based values and sustainability in tourism.

The competition was first introduced in 2023, receiving 795 entries from across the country. This year, in its second edition, the response was even more enthusiastic, with 991 applications submitted from 30 States and Union Territories. Out of these, 36 villages were declared winners across eight different categories. Among the winners were three exceptional villages from Madhya Pradesh, honored for their contributions to rural tourism.
1. Sabarvani Village
- Location: In the buffer zone of Satpura National Park.
- Award Category: Responsible Tourism.
- Highlights: Sabarvani is a tranquil village known for its Gond tribal culture and its connection with nature. The village offers homestays where visitors can experience local life, enjoy nature walks, and immerse themselves in the region's rich cultural heritage. Traditional Gond cuisine is a must-try for anyone visiting. Sabarvani was recognized for its commitment to responsible tourism, which focuses on conserving the environment and promoting community well-being through sustainable tourism practices.

2. Ladpura Khas Village
- Location: Near Orchha.
- Award Category: Responsible Tourism.
- Highlights: Ladpura Khas is the perfect destination for travelers seeking an authentic Bundeli experience. Visitors can stay in homestays, interact with the local community, and explore the area's stunning landscapes. The village provides a glimpse into Bundeli culture, traditions, and daily life. Ladpura Khas earned the award for its dedication to responsible tourism, offering tourists a meaningful cultural experience while ensuring the sustainability of local traditions and natural resources.

3. Pranpur Village
- Location: In the Chanderi tehsil of Ashoknagar district.
- Award Category: Craft Tourism.
- Highlights: Pranpur is well-known for its Chanderi handloom weaving, a traditional craft that has been passed down through generations. Visitors to the village can witness the intricate process of handloom weaving and learn about the art of Chanderi textiles. The village offers a unique textile tourism experience, blending culture and craft. Pranpur won the award for its contributions to preserving and promoting India's rich textile heritage, making it a must-visit for craft enthusiasts.
These three villages from Madhya Pradesh stand out for their commitment to preserving their cultural heritage and promoting sustainable, community-based tourism.
