Lucknow Airport To Begin Runway Upgrade In March, No Flight During Day Time

Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow will commence significant upgrades, including runway recarpeting and new taxiways, from March 2025. These enhancements aim to boost passenger safety and operational efficiency while minimising flight disruptions.

In a move aimed at boosting passenger safety and operational efficiency, Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International (CCSI) Airport has announced plans for a significant upgrade. Starting March 1, the airport will begin recarpeting its main runway, Runway 09/27, with completion targeted for July 15, 2025. This initiative reflects the airport's commitment to maintaining high standards of service and infrastructure.

To minimize disruption, the recarpeting operations are scheduled between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Flights will continue to operate outside these hours, means airlines will operate scheduled flights prior to 1000 hours and after 1800 hours ensuring that air travel remains largely unaffected. The airport's management is preparing a detailed strategy to manage the flow of flights efficiently, thereby reducing any potential inconvenience to both airlines and passengers during the upgrade period.

Despite the ongoing work, the airport will continue to handle a substantial number of flights. It is expected to manage 132 flights daily, only slightly fewer than its normal capacity of 140 flights. This marginal reduction underscores the airport's ability to maintain a high level of service even amid significant infrastructure projects.

The necessity for this upgrade stems from the need to keep the airport's facilities up to date. The runway, stretching 2,744 metres in length and 45 metres in width with an additional 7.5-metre shoulder on each side, was last recarpeted in 2018. The renovation is crucial for ensuring the runway's optimal performance and reliability, essential for the safety and convenience of millions of passengers.

Further enhancing operational efficiency, CCSI Airport will also add a new full-length parallel taxiway, measuring 2,744 metres. This new taxiway is designed to facilitate quicker entry and exit of aircraft from the runway, significantly improving the airport's handling capacity. Additionally, the construction of an extra taxiway, P9, is planned within the same timeframe, further boosting the airport's capability.

Managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, CCSI Airport is undergoing these extensive upgrades as part of its ongoing efforts to provide top-notch facilities to travelers. This project not only emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance and improvement of airport infrastructure but also showcases the commitment of AAHL to enhance air travel experience in India.

In conclusion, Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is set for a significant upgrade with the recarpeting of its main runway and the addition of new taxiways. The project, while minimally impacting flight schedules, is a testament to the airport's dedication to safety, efficiency, and passenger convenience. Managed by AAHL, the initiative highlights the broader efforts to improve air travel infrastructure across India.
