The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has announced an exciting new plan to improve 11 key intersections in Lucknow. This major project, with an estimated budget of ₹10 crore, aims to reduce traffic jams, improve safety on the roads, and make the city look more appealing.

Some of the primary changes include:
- Moving traffic signals and electric poles for better alignment.
- Clearing encroachments and illegal parking spaces that currently block smooth traffic.
- Redesigning roundabouts (rotaries) to improve the flow of vehicles.
- Adding safety features according to Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards.
- Building speed tables, rumble strips, and adding attractive elements to beautify these areas.
Several intersections have been selected for redesign, including Narora junction, Koneshwar chauraha, Daliganj junction, Sarvodaya Nagar, Mawaiyya, Everready junction, IIM road-green corridor, Alambagh, Piccadilly, and Krishnanagar. These changes are meant to not only ease traffic flow during peak hours but also create safer, more organized spaces for both drivers and pedestrians.
One notable upgrade is planned for Daliganj junction, where a re-engineered roundabout will allow U-turns from both directions, which should significantly reduce waiting times. Another major intersection, Madhurima Tiraha, will get an island (a newly elevated section in the center of a road that divides traffic moving in opposite directions) to handle the expected increase in traffic due to the new Vibhuti Khand railway station. These modifications are aimed at addressing the main issues causing traffic congestion and ensuring long-term improvements.
In-depth surveys led by LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar have identified critical areas where these upgrades will have the most impact. Relocating traffic signals and electric poles, along with removing illegal parking and street encroachments, is part of a broader approach to clear the way for smoother and more efficient travel.
The Narora junction, near the Agra Expressway entrance, is another critical area marked for improvement. A new rotary will help regulate the heavy traffic here, improving both flow and safety. Koneshwar chauraha in the Chowk area will see encroachments cleared to prevent slowdowns and ease congestion. Other intersections like Sarvodaya Nagar, Mawaiyya, Everready junction, IIM road-green corridor, Alambagh, Piccadilly, and Krishnanagar are also set for significant updates, as part of this comprehensive plan to enhance urban mobility across Lucknow.
Safety improvements following IRC standards are another key focus. To make roads safer, the intersections will feature speed tables and rumble strips. Additionally, LDA plans to incorporate placemaking features at key entry points, adding visual appeal and creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
The project will start with the invitation of tenders, moving forward with the much-needed updates. This initiative reflects LDA's dedication to turning Lucknow into a better, more livable, and attractive city. With careful planning and strategic investments, these updates are expected to improve not only traffic but also the urban landscape, bringing Lucknow closer to a brighter, more efficient future.
