Yalahanka Faces Rain Challenges; BBMP's Response Efforts
In response to recent flooding in Yalahanka, several measures have been implemented. In Badrappa Layout and Tata Nagar, three fire extinguishers, one generator pump, and six floating pump systems have been deployed. Additionally, a fire extinguisher vehicle is stationed at Kendriya Vihar Apartments to assist with water removal. Kendriya Vihar has also received 15 boats, with one sourced from Tata Nagar. Furthermore, BBMP has initiated the distribution of essential supplies, providing 1,500 five-liter water bottles in Yalahanka and 2,000 in Batarayanpur. Officials from BBMP confirmed that meals and snack boxes are being supplied to affected areas.

In Chikkamagalur's Kaffinad region, persistent rainfall has been ongoing for several days. Floodwaters have inundated residences in Vidyaranyapura, Kodugehalli, and the Yalahanka Upanagar sub-division, impacting a total of 1,030 locations across the city. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials have conducted inspections and initiated remedial measures alongside efforts to remove the water.
Power failures and internet disruptions across the city

Bengaluru is experiencing intense rainfall, leading to power outages in several areas, including Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The unreliable internet service has further complicated matters for remote workers. Following severe flooding on the roads due to the heavy rains, many companies in the city have advised their employees to work from home. However, the persistent downpour has left individuals stranded without adequate electricity and internet access.
North Bengaluru is Worst Affected
Several areas in North Bengaluru, particularly around Yelahanka, faced severe flooding, with Kendriya Vihar resembling a river as waist-deep water inundated the region. Rescue workers had to evacuate people using coracles. The waterlogging severely disrupted public life, with many residents staying indoors, and numerous passengers missing flights, trains, and buses. Children in waterlogged areas were unable to attend school. Homes in low-lying areas and those near lakes were flooded, damaging household items, vehicles, and electronic goods.
Lake embankment collapsed
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who oversees Bengaluru Development, commented on the situation on Tuesday. He remarked, "You may have seen the media reports about what's happening in Dubai and Delhi. Delhi is dealing with pollution, and Dubai, a typically drought-prone area, is experiencing rains. Many parts of our country are facing similar challenges. We're managing the situation." He added, "While we can't control nature, we're here to respond. My presence isn't critical because it would draw media attention, but our priority is providing relief to those affected by the rains."
Shivakumar noted that the southern, western, and Mahadevapura zones were the most affected, with a lake embankment collapsing in Dasarahalli. Areas under Mahadevapura zone, including Basava Samithi Layout, Tata Nagar, Bhadrappa Layout, Vayunandana Layout, Anjaneya Layout, Chitrakoot Apartment, Ramanashree California, Surabhi Layout, Someshwara Layout, and Kanaka Nagar, were inundated. He confirmed that five NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed for relief efforts, and 20 pumps have been installed to drain water from flooded apartments and low-lying areas.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate thundershowers, with lightning, for isolated areas in Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagalur, Kolar, Bengaluru Urban, and Bengaluru Rural districts.
