The Ministry of Railways has introduced the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aimed at the continuous development of railway stations across India. The scheme focuses on enhancing amenities, accessibility, and sustainability at railway stations, ensuring a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Key Aspects of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is designed for the ongoing development of railway stations with a long-term perspective. It involves the creation of Master Plans and their phased implementation to improve various aspects of station facilities. These include better station access, upgraded circulating areas, improved waiting halls, enhanced toilets, installation of lifts and escalators, cleanliness initiatives, free Wi-Fi, and kiosks promoting local products through schemes like 'One Station One Product.'
Additionally, the scheme aims to implement better passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, dedicated spaces for business meetings, landscaping, and more. The development plan takes into account the unique needs of each station, promoting a holistic approach to railway station enhancement.
Towards Sustainable and Accessible Infrastructure
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is not just about immediate improvements; it also envisions a gradual shift towards sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. This transition will be based on the availability of funds and the condition of existing assets.
To ensure inclusivity, the Ministry of Railways has issued guidelines on the accessibility of Indian Railway stations for differently-abled persons (Divyangjans) and passengers with reduced mobility. These guidelines have been officially notified in the Gazette of India, emphasizing the commitment to make railway infrastructure accessible to all.
Selection and Funding Details
So far, 1318 stations have been selected under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The selection is based on proposals received from Zonal Railways and includes stations located in major cities and towns across India. The allocation and expenditure for station development and maintenance are maintained zonal Railway-wise, with a total allocation of ₹9618.22 crore (RE) under Plan Head - 53 'Customer Amenities' for the year 2023-24.
