List of Railway Stations in Gujarat to be Turned into Smart Stations

Recently, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC - DRA JV) secured the contract for the redevelopment of Ahmedabad Junction Railway Station (ADI) in Gujarat. Anticipated to kick off in 2024, the survey and construction work promise to transform the station into a marvel, akin to the aesthetic allure of Bangalore Airport. The metamorphosis of Ahmedabad Railway Station will undoubtedly elevate it to a level of grandeur that reflects the spirit of Gujarat.

Among the 1309 railway stations nationwide, a select 87 have been earmarked for a remarkable transformation under the ambit of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations are poised to embrace a slew of modern amenities, enhancing the overall passenger experience.

The Ministry of Railways has championed the 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,' envisioning a continuous and comprehensive development plan for railway stations across India. Within this initiative, 87 stations in Gujarat are slated for significant enhancement. The scheme focuses not only on immediate improvements but also adopts a long-term perspective to ensure sustained growth.

Enhanced Amenities: Waiting halls, platforms, toilets, and surrounding areas will witness a significant upgrade.

Lifts and Escalators: Accessibility will be a priority, ensuring that all passengers can navigate the station effortlessly.

Free WiFi: Passengers can stay connected with free mobile internet access.

Local Product Kiosks: Introducing schemes like 'One Station One Product' to showcase and promote local goods.

Passenger Information Systems: Information kiosks for seamless communication and assistance.

Executive Lounges: Spaces designed for comfort and convenience.

Business Meeting Spaces: Dedicated areas for conducting business meetings.

Beyond these immediate enhancements, the scheme outlines a comprehensive vision for further improvement. This includes upgrading station buildings, integrating the station with the city on both sides, facilitating multimodal integration, catering to the needs of Divyangjans (persons with disabilities), incorporating sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions, adopting ballast-less tracks, introducing 'Roof Plazas' based on necessity, phasing and feasibility considerations, and eventually creating vibrant city centers at the stations in the long term.
