Kolkata Metro's Orange Line Phase III work has reached an important stage, with the Beleghata-IT Centre section in Salt Lake now ready for electrical work. Officials recently completed the first push trolley inspection of the Salt Lake stretch after finishing the viaduct and ballastless track work on 17 September, leading way for the electrical work.
Kolkata Metro's Orange Line: Belghata-IT Centre
The Beleghata-IT Centre section, sanctioned in 2010, is part of the 32-km Kavi Subhash-Jai Hind Bimanbandar Metro corridor and is being developed in five phases.
Two sections of the corridor are already operational. Passenger services are provided between Kavi Subhash and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, covering the Rubi crossing. Services are also running between Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Beleghata.
Once Metro services start on the third stretch between Beleghata and the IT Centre, working professionals working in Salt Lake Sector V's IT hub can look forward to a comfortable and convenient travel option. They can easily commute daily without any hassle.
The latest phase has been substantially completed, while work is continuing on the remaining sections of the corridor. Once the entire Orange Line is completed, it will provide an east-west Metro connection between the southern parts of Kolkata and the airport zone through the Kavi Subhash-Jai Hind Bimanbandar corridor.
