March 14th marked a significant milestone for Kochi as the Water Metro expanded its services to four additional terminals: Mulavukad North, South Chittoor, Eloor, and Cheranallur. In an online ceremony held at the Eloor Water Metro Terminal, Chief Minister Vijayan inaugurated the new terminals, symbolizing a remarkable step forward in enhancing connectivity across Kochi's waterways. These new terminals herald the commencement of two new routes, providing greater accessibility and convenience to commuters.

With the addition of these terminals, the Water Metro now boasts five routes spanning nine terminals, offering commuters an efficient and eco-friendly mode of transportation. Minister P. Rajeev hailed the expansion as a historic achievement for the state, emphasizing the environmentally-friendly design of the Water Metro.

The project has garnered global attention for its innovative approach to urban transportation and its commitment to sustainability. Minister Rajeev also announced plans to commence services from the Fort Kochi terminal in the near future, further expanding the reach of the Water Metro network.

Currently, the Kochi Water Metro operates 13 boats along three routes: High Court Junction-Vypin-Bolgatti, Vyttila-Kakkanad, and now, the newly inaugurated routes. The ongoing terminal construction work at Paliyamthuruth, Kumbalam, Willington Island, and Mattancherry underscores the continued expansion efforts of the project.

Upon completion, the Water Metro project aims to deploy 78 boats servicing 38 terminals across ten islands, providing seamless connectivity to commuters. Ticket prices range from Rs. 20 to Rs. 40, with various pass options available to suit different commuting needs.

The Water Metro project aligns with Kochi's vision of sustainable urban development, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce pollution in the city. By leveraging energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly boats, the project seeks to offer commuters a greener alternative to traditional modes of transportation.

As India's pioneering water transport initiative, the Kochi Water Metro represents a paradigm shift in urban mobility. Its integrated system connects ten islands to the mainland, making it the largest water transport network in Asia.

With modern amenities such as Wi-Fi-enabled boats and advanced safety features, the Water Metro prioritizes passenger comfort and convenience. The integration with the Kochi Metro further enhances accessibility to suburban areas, bridging the gap between land-based and water-based transportation.

Inaugurated in February 2021, the Water Metro project is set to become fully operational by 2035, serving an estimated 1.5 lakh passengers daily. It stands as a testament to Kochi's commitment to sustainable development and equitable access to transportation for all its residents.

The Kochi Water Metro is not just a transportation project; it's a catalyst for change, fostering economic growth, improving livelihoods, and enhancing the quality of life for Kochi's residents. As the project continues to evolve, it promises to redefine urban transportation and set new benchmarks for sustainable development in India and beyond.
