Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has decided to build an elevated skywalk connecting the Tripunithura railway station with the nearby Metro station, making movement easier for passengers. To start the process, KMRL has already prepared and submitted a general arrangement drawing to the railways. In response to Ernakulam MP Hibi

Eden, Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Divyakant Chandrakar stated that this skywalk project will likely be included under Southern Railway's umbrella projects for the 2025-26 financial year.
Submission of Petition
Earlier, MP Hibi Eden had submitted a petition after passengers requested the reopening of an old entryway at the Tripunithura railway station. However, railway officials explained that this entry was never officially approved. They said it may have been created earlier during construction activities and does not form part of any sanctioned station layout. Because it was unofficial, people using it were actually entering the station premises in an unauthorized manner.
Increase in Speed
Officials also pointed out that the train speed in this area has recently been increased, making unauthorized access even more dangerous. Keeping the entry open posed serious risks to passenger safety, security, and railway operations. For these reasons, the railways said that reopening the gate or creating a new gate at the same location would not be feasible.
Alternate Solution
Since neither the railways nor KMRL could allow the old entry to be reopened, MP Eden suggested an alternative solution: building a skywalk linking the railway station and the Metro station. This suggestion was accepted, and as a result, KMRL formally proposed the new skywalk project. With the required drawings now submitted and the project likely to be included under upcoming railway works, the elevated walkway is expected to offer a safe and convenient route for passengers once completed.
