The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Kasaragod and Kannur districts, warning of isolated heavy rains in Kerala today. The rain is likely to continue in some parts of the state until Tuesday, with winds reaching up to 40 km/h. Authorities have also maintained the red
alert for several dams, as the water levels are rising dangerously.
Advisory for Kerala's Residents
• Fishing has been completely banned till October 27 along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, due to rough sea conditions and strong winds of 40-60 km/h. Fishermen and coastal residents have been asked to stay careful and avoid venturing into the sea.
• People living in landslide-prone, mudslide, or mountain flood areas are advised to move to safer locations as instructed by officials. Those residing near riverbanks or downstream of dams should stay vigilant and be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Residents in weak or unsecured houses, especially with fragile roofs, should be extra cautious and contact authorities for relocation if required.
• The public is also warned to be aware of dangers from falling trees or electric poles during strong winds. Moreover, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has provided detailed safety guidelines on its website.
• During heavy rainfall, people are strictly advised not to cross or bathe in rivers and water bodies, or attempt to take selfies or gather on bridges.
• Unnecessary travel should be avoided, and visits to waterfalls, hilly regions, or flood-prone areas should be postponed until the weather warning is lifted.
The authorities emphasize that public cooperation and caution are crucial to prevent accidents and ensure safety during this period of unstable weather.
