The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions across Kerala on Monday, excluding Idukki and Wayanad. Palakkad is projected to reach around 40°C in some areas, while Kollam could hit about 39°C. Most other districts are anticipated to see maximum temperatures 3-4°C above normal.

In addition to the heat warning, IMD cautions that Kerala's weather will remain unsettled in the coming days. A thunderstorm with lightning is highly likely at one or two locations on Monday.
From Tuesday to Thursday, isolated spots may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph. IMD forecasts and Kerala weather alerts cover heat, rain, and wind. Recent data highlight the gravity of Kerala's weather pattern. On Sunday, Palakkad recorded 40.1°C, about 3.8°C above the usual maximum. Punalur in Kollam reported 39.5°C, roughly 4.7°C above normal. These figures reflect the combined effect of intense sunshine and humidity across several districts.
The meteorological department also warns of heavy rainfall in certain areas despite the heat, indicating mixed signals in Kerala's weather. A yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Wednesday. Pathanamthitta and Kottayam are under a similar alert for Thursday, signaling sharp, localized downpours.

UV index in Munnar and changing Kerala weather conditions
Munnar, often called the Kashmir of the South for its usually mild climate, is now reporting an unusually high UV index, marking a sharp Kerala weather shift in the hills. The UV index, which earlier stayed around three, has climbed to eight. Clear skies and the high elevation are allowing stronger direct sunlight over the hill station.
Officials note that an orange alert for UV exposure is issued when the index ranges between eight and ten, while a red alert is declared once it reaches 11. Authorities have asked residents and tourists in Munnar to be very cautious during the daytime as the Kerala weather pattern now includes intense solar radiation at altitude.
Idukki district collector Dinesan Cheruvat has instructed agencies to ensure strict safety measures in view of the current Kerala weather. The tourism department and the district tourism promotion council have been told to prepare and share clear guidelines for visitors. The focus is on limiting exposure during peak sun hours and encouraging protective clothing.
