The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall across Kerala over the next few days as a deep depression has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coast. This is the first deep depression to develop over the Bay of Bengal during the current monsoon season and is expected to strengthen rainfall activity in several parts of the country.

Kerala Rain Alert Until 31 July
According to the IMD, heavy rain is likely in Odisha, West Bengal and along the west coast, stretching from Maharashtra to northern Kerala. Keeping this in view, the weather department has issued a Yellow alert for parts of Kerala until July 31.
Kerala Districts Under Yellow Alert
On Tuesday, the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Thrissur will remain under a Yellow alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places. Residents in these districts have been advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
The IMD has also predicted that rain or thundershowers are likely at many places across Kerala and Lakshadweep over the coming days. The showers are expected to be widespread, with some areas receiving moderate to heavy rainfall.
Apart from rain, the weather department has warned of strong surface winds across Kerala. Wind speeds are likely to reach 30 to 40 kmph at times and are expected to continue until July 31. The gusty winds, along with heavy rain, may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, reduced visibility, and minor disruptions to traffic in some places.
Advisory for Kerala Residents
People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious, especially during periods of heavy rain and strong winds. Fishermen and those planning outdoor activities should also keep track of the latest weather updates.
The IMD will continue to monitor the deep depression and issue further advisories if required. Residents are encouraged to follow official weather alerts and take necessary safety measures as the monsoon remains active across the state.
