Kerala is expected to receive stronger rainfall again from Thursday, August 13, after a short break, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Thursday, warning of isolated spells of heavy rain.
Kerala Rain Alert on 13 August
A yellow alert indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall, with 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain expected within 24 hours. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to waterlogging or other rain-related problems.
The rain is expected to continue into Friday, August 14. A yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts for the day. These areas may receive isolated spells of heavy rainfall.
Along with the rain warning, authorities have also issued an alert for Kerala's coastal areas due to the possibility of high waves and the 'Kallakkadal' phenomenon. Coastal stretches from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur could experience waves between 1.0 and 1.6 metres high.
The areas at risk include parts of the coast in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. The National Centre for Coastal Research has warned about the possibility of sea incursions and rough sea conditions in these areas.
Advisory for Kerala Residents
Fishermen and people living near the coast have been advised to stay alert and follow safety instructions issued by authorities. People are also advised to avoid unnecessary travel or activities close to the sea during periods of rough conditions.
