To handle the heavy passenger rush during the Independence Day weekend and help people travel comfortably to their hometowns and popular destinations, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations will operate 2,040 special buses across the state from August 14 to 16.
Tamil Nadu Special Buses for Independence Day
According to the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC), 505 special buses will run on August 14 and 570 buses on August 15 from Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (Kilambakkam). These buses will connect Chennai with cities including Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur.
From CMBT, Koyambedu, another 110 buses each will operate on August 14 and 15 to destinations such as Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur and Bengaluru. In addition, 200 special buses will operate from Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruppur to various parts of Tamil Nadu.
The Madhavaram Bus Terminus will also operate 80 special buses on both August 14 and 15. These services will connect passengers to Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Vellore, Hosur and Puducherry. To help travellers return after the long weekend, the transport department has arranged 465 special buses from different districts to Chennai and Bengaluru on August 16.
The transport department said that bookings are many. More than 44,000 passengers have booked tickets for the three days, and the number is expected to rise further. Additional officials have been deployed at major bus terminals to manage crowds and ensure smooth operations. Passengers can book tickets through the TNSTC mobile app or the official booking website.
