The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy (7-11 cm) to severe rainfall (12-20 cm) in some parts of Kerala on Friday. This weather is linked to a low-pressure area likely to form over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on October 24, due to an

upper-air cyclonic circulation currently present over the southeast Bay and south Andaman Sea.
Severe Weather Conditions
Overnight, heavy rain and strong winds have caused trees and power lines to fall, damaging houses, vehicles and leading to power cuts and traffic disruptions in several parts of the state. Continuous downpours have also resulted in waterlogging in low-lying areas and a rise in river water levels across Kerala.
Orange Alert in Kerala's Districts
An orange alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, while a yellow alert is in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts on Friday morning from 7 a.m. for three hours, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to intense rainfall and strong surface winds reaching up to 50 kmph in gusts at isolated locations.
Advisory for Residents
The IMD also warned of squally winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, along the Kerala coast and nearby sea areas till October 27. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period due to rough weather conditions. Authorities have urged residents to be careful, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow official safety advisories as heavy rains are likely to continue for the next few days across the state.
