The gates of Kedarnath Dham were opened to pilgrims on Tuesday morning to the sounds of shloka (Hindu hymn) chanting and raucous drumming wherein twenty quintals of flowers were used to beautify Lord Shiva's dwelling before the opening ceremony.
Hindu pilgrimage place Kedarnath, one of the Char Dhams is situated in India's Uttarakhand state's Rudraprayag district. Near the head of the Mandakini River, Kedarnath is located at the astounding altitude of 3584 meters above sea level.
Lakhs of devotees visit the Kedarnath temple, which is surrounded by the magnificent snow-capped Garhwal Himalayan peaks, every year. If a devotee wants to visit this sacred place, they must first register online at the official website.
Then, they have to download their E-Pass from the official website. Only a set number of visitors are permitted daily, following the new regulations. People can choose to fly via helicopter from Phata, Sitapur, Sersi, and Guptkashi to the temple, which is located 18 kilometers from Gaur Kund.

The idol is moved to Ukhimath in winter due to the massive snowfall that closes all routes for six months and then shifted back in the month of April and May every year.
Opening & Closing Ceremony:
The opening ceremony was grand and thousands of devotees were present their to get the first glimpse. One of the auspicious days for many pilgrims travelling to Kedarnath from all around the nation and the world is the opening day of the Kedarnath Kapaat. After long hours of worship by Rawal & Pujaris of Kedarnath Dham, the gates of Kedarnath Temple opened today morning with joy and happiness after which all the devotees got the first glimpse of Lord Shiva.
During Kedarnath Dham's closing ceremony, is also commendable where Baba Kedar Doli is transported by the Garhwal Band to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, which is Lord Kedarnath's winter abode. The doors close on Bhai Dooj, which is two days following Diwali.

Latest Registration Update:
The Uttarakhand government has stopped taking registration requests from visitors for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra due to considerable snowfall on the pilgrimage route as a result of a weather warning from the Meteorological department.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning citing heavy snowfall along the Kedarnath Dham route. Kedarghati's weather is expected to remain adverse this week, according to an official statement.
