On Saturday, the Karnataka government released updated guidelines for preventing COVID infections in travelers from high-risk nations. People travelling from high-risk countries are required by the rules to spend 7 days in quarantine at home.

High-risk nations:

Passengers travelling from such countries must have a negative COVID status, according to the authorities. Right now, high risks nations are China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, and Singapore.

The administration decided to trace and quarantine both primary & secondary contacts of COVID-positive individuals to increase surveillance and containment efforts within the State.

Overseas visitors from high-risk nations, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand, must spend 7 days at home under quarantine after their arrival. According to a Health Department circular intended for overseas travellers, when tested positive, the infected individuals must be handled and treated following the State COVID procedure.

Additionally, it stated that before permitting a traveller to depart the airport, their RT-PCR certificate should be checked for a negative COVID status. According to the Health Department, airport administrations are responsible for offering all essential help in this area.

Passengers travelling from these nations must present a COVID negative report in order to be permitted to leave the airport, according to amended procedures in Karnataka. Additionally, in accordance with the regulations, any international travelers from the aforementioned nations who are discovered to be symptomatic will be segregated promptly and transported to the specified medical facility. Their samples should be taken and sent for RT-PCR analysis and genome sequencing in the meantime.

Asymptomatic travellers will be permitted to leave the airport, but they will be cautioned to keep an eye out for COVID symptoms and strictly adhere to COVID-appropriate behaviour, such as choosing to wear face masks, maintaining social distance from everyone, and using hand sanitizer. They will also be required to stay in their homes for the following seven days in quarantine.

Additionally, the state government instructed travellers to notify the neighborhood surveillance health team if they experience any fever, cough, cold, body discomfort, headache, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, or difficulty breathing while under home quarantine.

For children under 12 years:

The same protocol as above for adults should be followed if children under 12 years old, who are exempt from pre-departure & post-arrival testing, exhibit symptoms upon arrival or during the self-monitoring and home quarantine period of the following seven days. The exception is that a parent or guardian in good health should support them and be the child's caretaker during the time of isolation and treatment, as appropriate.

The instructions said that if a person tests positive for Covid-19, their primary & secondary connections must likewise be quarantined at their residences or other designated locations within 24 hours of identification.

According to the circular, the new strain of concern, XBB and BF.7 is spreading quickly in a select number of nations, and a few cases have also been reported in India & Karnataka. The circular also stated that to maintain the progress made thus far, it is absolutely essential to more effectively trace, track, & isolate both primary & secondary interactions of Covid-19 positive individuals.
