The Kanwar Yatra is a significant religious pilgrimage in India, where devotees carry water from the Ganges River to offer it at Lord Shiva temples. This year, the event has led to special traffic arrangements in Ghaziabad to manage the influx of pilgrims and ensure their safety. The restrictions will be in place from midnight of July 27 until 8 PM on August 5, 2024.

One of the major affected routes is the 18km stretch of GT Road from Seemapuri Border (Ghaziabad-Delhi border) to Lal Kuan (Ghaziabad-Gautam Budh Nagar border). During this period, light vehicles, including autos, will not be allowed on this route. Additionally, autos will face restrictions on Delhi-Meerut Road and the stretch from Mohan Nagar to Vasundhara flyover. Travelers heading from Meerut crossing towards Kanawani and Indirapuram will need to use the Vijayanagar rail overbridge and may further use NH-9 to reach their destinations. Similarly, on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, the movement of light vehicles will be restricted from midnight on July 28/29.
Vehicles will be diverted through Tronica City or Sonia Vihar for those traveling from Baghpat to Delhi. Vehicles coming from Hapur and Bulandshahr to Ghaziabad city via Dasna railway overbridge will also be rerouted to NH-9. Vehicles from Delhi and Hapur heading towards Ghaziabad city via Atmaram Steel Tiraha will be restricted and must use NH-9 instead. The movement of vehicles from the Loni border will be completely restricted. Vehicles traveling from Santosh Medical Cut (NH-9) towards Meerut Tiraha will be stopped as well. The entry of heavy vehicles from Gaur Green, Khoda, Kalapatthar, Sector 62, Chhijarasi, and Kanavani to Indirapuram via NH-9 will also be diverted.

For those traveling from Hapur via Bhojpur towards Modinagar, new routes will be designated. The entry of trucks on Gangnahar Patri Kanwad Road, Pipeline Road, NH-34 (formerly NH-58), and DME will be restricted. Additionally, vehicles from Vasundhara flyover heading towards Mohannagar will be stopped.
These restrictions are implemented to manage traffic during the Kanwar Yatra, ensuring safety and smooth flow for pilgrims and other commuters. Travelers in Ghaziabad are advised to use alternative routes, such as NH-58 (formerly NH-24) and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. For those coming from Palwal/Kundli to Ghaziabad city, Muradnagar, or Modinagar, the Dasna cut via NH-09 is recommended. The Meerut Tiraha route will be accessible for vehicles heading towards Mohannagar/Seemapuri border until July 28.
The traffic curbs during the Kanwar Yatra are crucial for maintaining order and safety. Commuters are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the designated routes to avoid inconvenience during this period.
