Kanwar Yatra 2024 Brings Traffic Changes: Delhi and Noida Police Issue Advisories

As the Kanwar Yatra begins, both Delhi Police and Noida Police are taking steps to manage the expected traffic congestion caused by the influx of pilgrims. The pilgrimage started on July 22 and will continue until August 2, attracting around 15-20 lakh devotees.

Kanwar Yatra 2024 Brings Traffic Changes

Here's what you need to know about the traffic changes and advisories:

Delhi Police Traffic Advisory

1. Closure of Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME):

- The Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be closed to heavy vehicles starting July 22. The closure will last until 8 PM on August 5. Vehicles will be redirected to alternative routes during this period.

- The Kanwar Yatra coincides with the Sawan month, which starts on July 22 and ends on August 19 this year.

2. Route Diversions:

- Vehicles traveling from Delhi through Tulsi Niketan, Seemapuri, and Anand Vihar to Ghaziabad will be rerouted along Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg towards UP Gate, then follow NH-9.

- For Haridwar, Amroha, Moradabad, and Lucknow, drivers should use UP Gate, NH-9, the Dasna Intersection, and then follow the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

- Vehicles from Baghpat heading towards Delhi will be redirected through either Tronica City or Sonia Vihar.

- Vehicles from Hapur and Bulandshahr going towards Ghaziabad will be rerouted to NH-9.

- Trucks will be restricted from entering areas like Gaur Green, Khoda, Kalapatthar, Sector 62, Chhijarasi, and Kanavani to Indirapuram via NH-9.

- No trucks will be allowed on Gangnahar Patri Kanwad Road, Pipeline Road, NH-34 (formerly NH-58), and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

3. Kanwar Camps:

- Pilgrims will not be allowed to set up camps along NH-9 or DME. Camps can only be established on traditional routes with police permission and not on main roads. So far, 116 out of 214 camp applications have been approved.

Noida Police Traffic Advisory

1. Vehicle Diversions:

- Heavy vehicles will be diverted from Mohan Nagar towards NH-24.

- HTVs will not be permitted towards Wazirabad Road via Bhopura or towards GT Road via Apsra Border.

- HTVs (excluding city buses) won't be allowed on GT Road towards Shahdara and Wazirabad Road.

- HTVs from GT Karnal Road at Outer Ring Road will be directed straight towards NH-24.

2. Congestion Areas:

- Traffic congestion is expected around Najafgarh Firni, Rohtak Road, Pankha Road, Outer Ring Road, Rani Jhansi Road, Boulevard Road, and Maujpur Chowk.

Both Delhi and Noida Police are urging motorists to plan their journeys carefully and adhere to the traffic diversions to avoid delays. They will also be monitoring traffic closely to ensure smooth movement during this busy period.
