Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Kanpur brought a wave of development, improved transportation, and better energy facilities. The trip was marked by the inauguration and foundation laying of many important projects that aim to improve the lives of people in Kanpur and nearby areas. These projects show the government's strong efforts in improving urban living and making public services better.

Kanpur Metro Corridor Opened
One of the main highlights of the visit was the inauguration of the new underground metro corridor in Kanpur. This new line runs between Chunniganj and Kanpur Central and covers a total of 16 kilometers. It includes 14 stations, stretching from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central. The public will be able to use this metro service from 6 AM on May 31. The underground stretch from Motijheel to Kanpur Central adds five new stations to the earlier nine, improving city-wide connectivity.
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has prepared carefully for this launch. Extra staff has been deployed at every metro station to help passengers. A detailed training session was held at Kanpur Central station to guide staff on assisting commuters, operating ticket machines, and responding to emergencies. Important safety measures such as CCTV cameras and fire alarms are also in place. UPMRC's Managing Director Sushil Kumar said that the goal is to provide a safe and world-class travel experience to the people of Kanpur.
More Metro Stations Coming Soon
This newly opened section is part of a larger metro plan that is expected to reach Naubasta by the end of 2025. Once completed, this metro line will offer a faster, safer, and more comfortable journey for thousands of people daily. It is also expected to reduce traffic on roads and pollution in the city.
Power Projects to Meet Energy Demand
Apart from the metro, PM Modi launched several large-scale energy projects. This includes the 660 MW Panki thermal power plant and the first unit of the 1980 MW Neyveli power plant in Ghatampur. These projects will provide electricity to millions of homes and support the state's growing energy needs.
New 132 kV substations were also introduced in Greater Noida, helping improve electricity supply in urban areas. Road improvement projects in Kanpur Nagar District were also inaugurated, promising smoother and stronger roads for daily travel.
Support for Public Welfare
During his visit, Modi also gave certificates and cheques to beneficiaries of various government schemes like PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojna, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and the National Livelihood Mission. These steps are focused on helping the poor, the elderly, and people working to build better lives.
Tight Security and Crowd Comfort
Due to the importance of the visit, security was very tight. A 16-hour traffic diversion was arranged, and a strong three-layer security system was set up. This included SPG commandos, paramilitary forces, and local police teams. The event area was divided into 30 blocks, each with coolers to help people stay comfortable in the heat.
Overall, PM Modi's Kanpur visit marked a major step in improving the city's transportation, power supply, and public services, giving hope for a better future for its people.
