What is the Circular Journey Ticket?

The Circular Journey Ticket is a unique service tailored for journeys that start and end at the same station but encompass multiple stops in between. This innovative offering is particularly beneficial for trips beyond regular routes, such as sightseeing tours or pilgrimage journeys. This special ticket allows passengers to explore various destinations along a circuitous route without the hassle of booking separate tickets for each leg of the journey. This distinctive ticket, as elaborated on the official Indian Railways website, www.indianrail.gov.in, holds the advantage of 'telescopic rates.' These rates, in essence, present a more economical option compared to regular point-to-point fares. Moreover, the Circular Journey Ticket is available for all classes of travel, ensuring its inclusivity.

Advantages and Features of Circular Journey Tickets

1. Time-Saving Convenience: The Circular Journey Ticket streamlines your travel, making it ideal for individual travelers or groups, particularly those embarking on pilgrimages or sightseeing tours.

2. Dual Journey Coverage: This innovative Railway offering encompasses two single journeys, each being half of the entire circular journey.
Route Versatility: Circular Journey Tickets are applicable to various routes except for the regular ones, adding flexibility to your travel plans.

3. Station Limitation: These tickets cover up to 8 stations or stoppage points, expanding your travel horizons.

4. Origination and Termination: The journey must commence and conclude at the same station, forming a circular path.

5. Telescopic Fare: The fare structure for a Circular Journey Ticket adheres to telescopic rates. As more stations are integrated into your itinerary, the individual ticket costs diminish. In essence, a Circular Journey Ticket offers an economical alternative compared to purchasing separate individual tickets.
Guidelines to Remember.

When it comes to Circular Journey Tickets, the usual rules about Break Journeys don't apply. This is especially true if your circular journey starts and finishes at the same station.

1. Circular Journey Tickets can be used for all classes of travel.

2. Passengers should tell the Railway staff about a maximum of eight stations where they want to take a break during their journey. However, remember that the starting and ending stations are not included.

3. To decide how long the ticket is valid, the Railway considers the total days of travel and the days you take breaks. For every 400 km or part of it, they count as one day of travel. But for breaks, every 200 km counts as one day.

4. Don't forget to sign and date the ticket on the day you start your journey. It's important!

Example Journey: New Delhi to Chennai:

To grasp the concept better, consider this example: If you were to embark on a circular journey from New Delhi to Chennai via various destinations, the ticket would remain valid for 56 days. This allows you to explore a 7,550-kilometer journey with multiple stoppages along the way.

Booking and Validity:

To avail a Circular Journey Ticket, passengers need to approach the Divisional Commercial Manager of the relevant division or major stations. The validity period is calculated based on the journey days and break journey days. Each journey day accounts for 1 day per 400 kilometers, while break journey days are calculated at 1 day per 200 kilometers.

Impact on Fare and Concessions:

Circular Journey Tickets are charged for two single journeys, with each journey length taken as half of the total distance. It's worth noting that 40% concession for male Senior Citizens and 50% concession for female Senior Citizens are granted when traveling a minimum distance of 1000 kilometers.

The Circular Journey Ticket is a valuable offering that enables passengers to embark on comprehensive journeys without the hassle of managing multiple tickets. With its cost-effective approach and flexibility, this service stands as a testament to the Indian Railways' commitment to enhancing travel experiences for all.
