IndiGo is trimming its domestic schedule following directives from the government and the DGCA, but data shows the cuts mainly protect its busiest routes. A review of the December 29 operating plan reveals 130 fewer domestic flights, with international services remaining steady.

The reductions touch 94 routes rather than a handful of sectors, with shorter, nearby links hit hardest. Nevertheless, Cirium notes that the airline maintains full services on key high-demand corridors such as Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Delhi, Delhi-Bengaluru, Bengaluru-Delhi, Mumbai-Bengaluru, and Bengaluru-Mumbai.
IndiGo flights schedule curtailment on key routes and airports
Cirium data indicates IndiGo has not modified the service frequency on its six leading domestic routes. The Delhi-Mumbai and Mumbai-Delhi paths each continue with 20 daily flights; Delhi-Bengaluru and Bengaluru-Delhi stay at 15 flights; and Mumbai-Bengaluru and Bengaluru-Mumbai remain at 14 flights in the December 29 schedule just filed. Among major airports, Bengaluru shows the most pronounced reduction in IndiGo's flight timetable. For December 29, the carrier cut 52 movements at Bengaluru, equally split with 26 departures and 26 arrivals. Hyderabad follows with a reduction of 34 flights, Chennai with 32, and both Kolkata and Ahmedabad with 22 each.
IndiGo flights schedule curtailment and route-level impact
While Bengaluru and several other southern and eastern cities experience noticeable reductions, IndiGo is keeping its two largest hubs largely unchanged. There are no IndiGo flight schedule cuts at Delhi, the airline's biggest base, and only one arrival and one departure have been removed in Mumbai. This analysis looks at IndiGo's domestic timetable for Monday, December 29, comparing two filings three weeks apart. The initial plan accounted for 2,008 domestic flights that day. The updated plan shows 1,878 flights, a drop of 130 services, about 6.5 percent. Route-level data indicate IndiGo is implementing the schedule curtailment gradually rather than enacting major cuts on a few sectors. Only two routes show a decrease of five flights in one day. Four routes have four fewer flights, four more experience a three-flight reduction, and 12 routes each lose two flights. The impact is mainly on short-haul trips, typically within a single state or between neighboring states. On 72 routes, IndiGo has eliminated one daily frequency. At the same time, to balance the overall schedule adjustments, the airline has added one flight on four routes, signaling a targeted reshuffle rather than a broad, uniform cut.
IndiGo flights schedule curtailment: detailed numbers and examples
Only the Chennai-Madurai pair experiences a bilateral drop of five flights, and vice versa, on December 29 as IndiGo tightens its schedule for short southern hops, reducing each direction from eight to three daily flights. Several routes see a four-flight cut in both directions under the same curtailment plan: Ahmedabad-Bengaluru and Bengaluru-Ahmedabad decrease from six to two daily flights, and Chennai-Tiruchirappalli plus Tiruchirappalli-Chennai similarly fall from six to two per day. Four routes lose IndiGo service entirely on December 29 due to the schedule curtailment: Goa-Surat and Surat-Goa, Chennai-Durgapur and Durgapur-Chennai each had one daily flight removed, leaving no IndiGo-operated flights on those sectors that day. Conversely, IndiGo adds capacity on four routes despite the curtailment: one extra flight each on Delhi-Nagpur and Nagpur-Delhi, and one more on Delhi-Hyderabad and Hyderabad-Delhi. This signals a shift of resources toward higher-demand or strategically important corridors.
IndiGo flights schedule curtailment, DGCA directive and Winter Schedule
Experts say IndiGo appears to be shaping its IndiGo flights schedule curtailment using several factors. These include demand patterns on individual routes, route length, and the wider availability and deployment of crew across the network, as the airline works to keep crucial sectors stable.
The DGCA had asked IndiGo to trim 10 per cent of its domestic Winter Schedule after a major disruption caused thousands of cancellations over a few days. IndiGo did not comment on the IndiGo flights schedule curtailment data, but sources familiar with the planning process say the airline still meets the regulator's requirement.
The 10 per cent reduction ordered by DGCA applies to IndiGo's approved Winter Schedule of around 2,145 domestic flights per day. Cutting this by 10 per cent brings permitted daily domestic flights to roughly 1,930. The new plan for December 29 lists 1,878 domestic flights, which is below that limit and aligns with the IndiGo flights schedule curtailment directive.
It is common practice for airlines to receive approval for more flights than they actually operate, to retain flexibility. IndiGo's earlier disruptions have eased, and despite the IndiGo flights schedule curtailment, the carrier is currently flying about 2,200 services daily, including over 300 international flights, slightly lower than its earlier level of more than 2,300 flights.
Operational outlook under IndiGo flights schedule curtailment
According to people aware of the network plans, IndiGo is expected to keep operating around 2,200 flights a day for now. Under this IndiGo flights schedule curtailment pattern, about 1,900 of those flights are likely to be domestic services, with the balance being international, through the rest of the Winter Schedule ending in the last week of March 2026.
The IndiGo flights schedule curtailment therefore largely affects secondary routes and shorter sectors, while major trunk routes and international operations stay stable. For passengers, this means strong connectivity on core corridors but fewer options on some regional links, at least until the current Winter Schedule period ends.
