For integrated rail transportation, Indian Railways is leveraging the power of data analytics. It has initiated a project named the Real Time Train Information System (RTIS) initiative. It has initiated a project under the Real Time Train Information System (RTIS) program that will now actually allow the tracking of train movements using satellite photography.
According to D.K. Singh, Managing Director of the Centre for Railway Information Systems, CRIS has worked with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for live tracking to assist railways in running trains efficiently.
According to DK Singh, ISRO has created its very own regional navigation satellite system known as Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) & Bhuvan. It is a type of web portal established by ISRO that is used to find and access geographical information & related geographic activities (display, modifications, analysis, and so on) online.
Every locomotive is outfitted with a device and a SIM card which broadcasts the precise location of the train to a satellite & allows for feedback. The movement is updated every three seconds. Real-time train tracking is especially essential during accidents, floods, and landslides when it is necessary to pinpoint the exact location of the train to provide assistance.

Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the technology has been placed in 4,000 locomotives so far, and new locomotives are being produced with the tracking devices pre-installed.
By emphasizing the need and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) & quantum technology for Indian Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that a pilot project was currently underway involving Sanchar Bhawan, which houses the Ministry of Electronics, Information, & Technology, and also Rail Bhawan, which houses the Ministry of Railways, to be using quantum key encryption to share information in a "non-hackable" manner.
Railways are using data analytics to improve customer experience, identify empty seats, and allow more passengers to acquire confirmed tickets. Indian Railways is also a significant employer, employing approximately 1.3 million people. The railway system is critical to the Indian economy since it allows for the transportation of merchandise and individuals across the country.

Indian Railways has a long history, dating back to 1853 when the first train operated between Mumbai and Thane. With the introduction of new trains, technologies, and services over the years, the Indian Rail Network has grown and updated.
