Hyderabad Weather Update: IMD Predicts Rain, Temperature Dip Across Telangana

Hyderabad: After an intense April marked by soaring temperatures crossing 45°C in several parts of Telangana, a significant weather shift is expected in the first week of May. The India Meteorological Department has forecast a drop in temperatures along with above-normal rainfall, bringing much-needed relief to residents across the state.

Gradual Relief Across Regions

The transition from extreme heat to relatively cooler conditions will not be uniform. While Hyderabad and nearby districts are likely to witness early relief, northern parts of Telangana may continue to experience high temperatures for a few more days.

Districts such as Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, and Bhongir (Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri) are expected to see temperatures stabilising below the 40°C mark starting May 1-2. This marks a noticeable improvement compared to the previous heatwave conditions.

Hyderabad Weather Today

For May 2, Hyderabad is expected to record a maximum temperature around 40°C, with sunny conditions during the day. By evening and night, skies are likely to turn partly cloudy, with temperatures dipping to around 27°C, making conditions more comfortable.

Although the sun will remain strong during peak afternoon hours, the overall heat intensity is expected to ease. The oppressive "heatwave feel" that dominated April is gradually weakening, especially in urban and surrounding zones.

Areas Still Facing Heat Stress

Not all regions will experience immediate relief. Northern districts like Adilabad and Nizamabad are expected to continue facing temperatures between 41°C and 44°C for the next few days. These areas may only begin to see a temperature drop around May 3-4, once rainfall activity becomes more widespread.

Rainfall Trigger and Weather System

According to IMD, the weather change is being driven by a cyclonic circulation over interior Maharashtra, combined with a trough extending towards Tamil Nadu. This system is expected to trigger scattered to moderate rainfall across Telangana, particularly during the first week of May.

As rainfall activity increases, daytime temperatures across most districts are likely to remain below seasonal averages, offering a break from the prolonged summer heat.

What to Expect This Week

  • Hyderabad & Surroundings: Early relief, temperatures below 40°C, partly cloudy skies
  • Western & Central Districts (Sangareddy, Vikarabad): Gradual cooling with chances of rain
  • Northern Telangana (Adilabad, Nizamabad): Continued heat for 2-3 days, followed by relief
  • Overall Trend: Cooler days, increasing cloud cover, and intermittent rainfall

Outlook

The first week of May is expected to bring a noticeable shift in weather patterns across Telangana, with improved comfort levels in most urban and semi-urban regions. While the transition will be gradual, the combination of cloud cover and rainfall is likely to ease heat stress significantly.

Residents are advised to remain cautious during peak afternoon hours but can expect improving conditions as the week progresses.
