Hyderabad is set to see a major upgrade in its metro rail network as Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the Phase-III expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail. This development will bring metro services to the northern parts of the city, aiming to improve connectivity and ease travel for residents. Areas like Uppal and Yadagirigutta will soon have access to the metro, making public transport more convenient for many.

The Phase-III expansion will also include Future City and Medchal, two regions not currently connected by the metro. This decision follows growing demands from the public for better metro coverage in areas such as Medchal, Keesara, and Alwal. Chief Minister Reddy assured citizens that the government is focused on urban development and will not overlook the northern parts of Hyderabad in its plans.
To fund the expansion, the Telangana government is actively seeking financial support from the central government and banks. Speaking to representatives from *The Hindu*, Chief Minister Reddy stressed the importance of preparing a feasibility report to move the project forward.
Updates on Phase-II Metro Expansion
The Phase-III announcement follows the government's progress on the Phase-II metro project, which covers a distance of 76.4 km across five corridors. These corridors include:
- L.B. Nagar to Hayatnagar
- Miyapur to Patancheru
- Nagole to Shamshabad Airport
- MGBS to Chandrayangutta
- Raidurg to Kokapet to Neopolis
The state government approved these Phase-II routes on November 2, signaling a strong commitment to improving Hyderabad's urban transport network.
When asked about the timeline for completing these expansions, Chief Minister Reddy expressed confidence in their feasibility and the state's ability to deliver on its promises. He added that Phase-III will build on the progress made in Phase-II, connecting even more areas to the metro system.
The Phase-III expansion is expected to significantly enhance public transportation in Hyderabad. By extending metro services to new areas, the government aims to reduce travel times, make commuting more convenient, and support the city's overall growth. This initiative reflects the state's dedication to addressing the transport needs of its citizens and improving urban mobility.
Residents in northern Hyderabad can look forward to better connectivity and smoother commutes as the metro reaches their neighborhoods in the near future.
